TIPS FOR A SURF TRIP TO LOMBOK
If you want a little escape from life in Bali, I highly recommend visiting one of the nearby islands, including Nusa Lembonghan, Flores, and Lombok. Lombok is known for its surf, and it didn’t disappoint! Here are my tips for a surf trip to Lombok.
HOW TO GET TO LOMBOK
You have a few options to get to Lombok from Bali - a slow ferry, a fast ferry or a flight. For boat options drop Eka Edi a message on +62 819 1641 4191.
WHERE TO STAY
There are lots of options on Booking.com and Air BnB and I would recommend staying in Kuta as then you are near everything. I recommend the place I stayed - a beautiful hotel, with a swimming pool, Spanish restaurant, and a great location in Kuta [but also very quiet]. The hotel staff were brilliant at organising us scooters too, and a car to get back to the ferry point. It’s called Sikara Lombok Hotel.
WHERE TO SURF
There are lots of places to surf on the island, and I only touched the surface! Tanjung is located abotu 20mins scooter ride from Kuta - and is a stunning white sand beach, with little warung’s dotted on the shore. Get your nasi goreng and bintang from Warun Rizki [pop it into Google Maps and it should come up - its the pink one!] post surf. The guys that run the warung can take you to and from the break by boat for 50,000 each [it takes about 5 mins to get to the break from the beach].
Another good spot is Gerpuk - and again you will need to take a boat out to this spot [this one takes about 15 minutes by boat]. Highly recommend surfing sunset here! There are 5 breaks here, so just depends whats working or your ability. Find out more here.
The best thing we did was use a surf guide - as they are locals who know all the good spots, and boats etc. I highly recommend Ozan - drop him a message here. And if you want photos snapped of you surfing, Sam is your man! Drop him a message here.
TOP TIP: If you have your own board, I would take it with me as the board choices didn’t seem to be that good in Lombok. Or make sure you arrange in advance with a surf guide to pick you up some decent boards!
WHERE TO EAT & PARTY
Kuta is the main strip in Lombok - with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. Although not as many options as Canggu, it still has some decent spots. Make sure you check out Bush Radio - I think I had the best ever smoothie bowl here! And the coffee is great. Gecko is a great spot for dinner and live music, and Satu Lagi a good spot for Mexican.
WHERE TO GET A POST SURF MASSAGE
SIWA Salon and Spa is a modern spa, offering lots of treatments including a post surf massage - highly recommend, and needed after 4 hours of surfing a day!
WHERE TO WATCH THE SUNSET
Head to Gunung Seger and do the hilltop hike! It’s not a massive hike - 20 mins max, and you will get a panoramic view of the ocean! There are people at the car park with coolers selling bintangs - grab one to enjoy at the top as you watch the sun go down!
Hope you find this recco’s helpful! i can’t wait to get back to the island for more exploring. For more travel tips follow me on instagram here.
