BRECON BEACONS TRAVEL TIPS

Wild horse in Brecon Beacons

A beautiful wild horse in the Brecon Beacons

Jeep UK kindly lent me their Firecracker Red jeep wrangler, complete with tentbox, for the weekend so I decided to take it to the Brecon Beacons to explore somewhere new! Here are my top recommendations for a weekend in this stunning National Park in Wales.

Four Falls Hike takes you past four stunning waterfalls

FOUR FALLS HIKE

This is a circular walk through ‘Waterfall Country’ which takes you past four stunning falls set in beautiful woodlands. The waterfalls are super impressive, and the walk against the rumbling bubbling of the river is idyllic.

PEN Y FAN HIKE

Pen y Fan is the highest mountain in southern Britain, so a hike to the top is a must, especially for the views! There are different options to hike it, but I did the 4 mile circular walk from the Storey Arms Outdoor Centre. The first hour is pretty much a steep incline all the way - it’s definitely tested my thighs haha - but once you get to the top it is worth it.

HILLS

This spot is highly talked about, and I can see why - their burgers are world class! Just take a look at their instagram and you’ll see what I mean. Definitely book this in advance, and I recommend going after the Pen Y Fan hike - a welcome treat after the tough hike!

LITTLE LION

This wood fired pizza spot is located in the car park of the Red Lion pub - and is a little gem in the middle of nowhere [although fairly close to the Four Falls hike car park]. Their delicious pizza [and homemade coleslaw] is a perfect treat after the Four Falls hike!

WILD CAMPING BRECON BEACONS

This camping spot is a must - located in beautiful countryside with some impressive trees in the middle providing shelter from the wind - it is simple camping at its best. You'll be charged £7 per person, per night, and for that you get access to some basic toilets.

PARK4NIGHT SPOTS

There are some epic Park4Night spots to park up or camp at in the National Park, including a stay in a farmers field with an honesty box [this was high up in the mountains though so it was a tad windy, but the views were epic [LD38LL post code]. And another parking spot with the most insane view over the valley [LD38SU post code].
