DISCOVERING THE MAGIC OF ST NECTAN'S GLEN IN CORNWALL

Discovering The Magic Of St Nectan's Glen In Cornwall

I, like Im sure many others, am a sucker for a waterfall - there is just something so magical and breathtaking about the cascading water, and often secret hidden loctations, and thank fully the UK has some incredible ones! Nestled in the picturesque county of Cornwall lies a hidden gem that feels almost otherworldly—St Nectan's Glen. This enchanting woodland valley, steeped in legend and natural beauty, is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, history buffs, and anyone seeking a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

St Nectan's Glen is named after Saint Nectan, a 6th-century hermit who, according to legend, lived in the area and blessed the waters of the glen. The most famous feature of this mystical place is the 60-foot waterfall, which cascades into a kieve (a Cornish word for basin) before flowing into the River Trevillet. This breathtaking waterfall is not only a visual delight but also holds a deep spiritual significance for many visitors. I’m not necessarily a spiritual person, but even I felt a magical aura being at this waterfall.

HOW TO GET THERE

St Nectan's Glen is located near Tintagel in Cornwall. If you put it into Google Maps, it will bring you to the public car park [which you will need cash for to pay]. From here it is about a half an hour walk, through gorgeous woodlands and along the stunning river. The path winds through ancient woodland, where moss-covered trees, ferns, and wildflowers create a vibrant tapestry of green. The air is filled with the soothing sounds of birdsong and flowing water, providing a perfect backdrop for meditation and reflection. It is so peaceful. And you haven’t even reached the waterfall yet!

The waterfall is open daily, but it's a good idea to check the official website for current opening times and any seasonal variations. I also made sure I got there nice and early, as I imagine it gets busier as the day goes on.

There is a fee to visit the watefall. which you pay on arrival - this payment goes towards the maintenance of the site - I think I payd £9.

At the entrance, you'll find a small café and gift shop where you can enjoy a cuppa or some lunch, and you might even see a couple of peacocks milling about!

The Waterfall

Once you have paid the admission fee, you will be let through a small gate to which you will walk down the steps until you reach the waterfall. It is beautiful, and you can immediately feel the healing power of it. The water plunges dramatically into the basin, creating a mesmerizing display. You can walk through the shallow waters to get closer to the waterfall. The cool, clear water is incredibly refreshing, and standing beneath the cascading falls is an exhilarating experience.

St Nectan's Glen is often described as having a unique energy. Many people visit for its reputed healing properties, believing the site to be a place of spiritual rejuvenation. Many visitors leave offerings, such as ribbons and crystals, at the site, adding to its mystical charm. It’s a tradition rooted in the glen’s history as a place of pilgrimage and spiritual significance.
