TRAVEL TIPS FOR CORNWALL

Travel Tips For Cornwall

With staycations on the rise, you might be considering a trip to stunning Cornwall. There are so many places in Cornwall to visit, but for a long weekend check out my tips below. I have been going to this part of Cornwall since I was a kid, so it’s always amazing to go back and go down memory lane.

Stay at Robbie Loves Campsite

Robbie Loves Campsite is located a ten-minute walk from Polzeath beach. Made up off gorgeous rolling fields at the top of the cliff, you can just about see the ocean from your camp spot. I’ve stayed here a couple of times, and love the laid back vibe that it offers. It has everything you could need including a shower block, washing up facilities, and even a work room with WIFI. It costs £12 per person, per night. Plus, Polzeath can get very busy as it’s a popular place to surf, so having a spot to park for free is a bonus!

Eat fresh seafood

The seafood in Cornwall is like no other - incredibly fresh, and cooked to perfection. Here are a couple of must-visits restaurants/cafes:

  • Rum Bar - not technically food but you can enjoy a good cocktail here, and it’s right on Polzeath beach

  • The Rock Inn, Rock - perfect for a nice dinner out after a walk along the beach in Rock

  • Taco Boys, New Polzeath beach - perfect for a snack on the beach

  • Surfside - perfect for food after a day at Polzeath beach

  • Waterfront Cafe - the views of Polzeath beach are awesome from the roof top here. And the Offshore lager is delicious!

  • Oyster Catcher - nice little pub at the top of the hill from Polzeath beach[the Crab Sandwich was delciious]

  • The Point

  • Prawn on the Lawn

Travel Tips For Cornwall

Eat a Cornish Pasty

You can’t come to Cornwall and not have a Cornish pasty! Family run for years, Chough’s Bakery in Padstow have been churning out the best pastys in Cornwall for years! And their secret ingredient? Cornish Clotted Cream of course!

Ride the Camel Trail

The Camel Trail is a must-do if you are in this part of Cornwall! I usually do the Wadebridge to Padstow ride, just in time for a pasty for lunch in Padstow, and then burn it off on the ride back. You can hire bikes from either end, check out these guys in Wadebridge. The completely flat route is 11 miles in total, there and back, so it’s a lovely ride for all abilities. Take in the stunning views of the picturesque Camel estuary which looks across to the beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay.

Wetsuit up and have a surf

Cornwall is one of the best surf spots in the UK so whether you are experienced or wanting to learn, make sure you get in the water! Polzeath is great for surfers and body boarders, but can get very busy. There are lots of other places to surf in Cornwall, including down the road in Newquay. Head to the top of Watergate Bay cliff, where you’ll find a surf school to rent a board and The Hangover cafe for a pre surf coffee [or post surf cake]. Walk down to the beach via the footpath and take in the stunning sea views.

Visit the stunning beaches

This part of Cornwall has so many gorgeous beaches, including Rock, Daymer Bay, Constantine, New Polzeath, Fistral Beach and more. My favourite has to be Constantine, as it’s huge which means you have more space, plus there is a cute cafe to get a proper coffee [or pasty] at. And - for remote workers like me - the beach even has wifi that you can pay for £5 for 5 hours for. Leave me a comment if you know of any others that I’ve missed out!

Watch a classic film at the Drive-in Cinema

I found this by chance, so I’d definitely recommend checking what’s on locally before you visit Cornwall. I was lucky enough to experience watching Point Break from my cosy van whilst the sun set at Watergate Bay - Friday nights don’t get much better than that! Check it out via Wavelength here.

Visit the infamous Bedruthan Steps

There are some epic camping spots in Cornwall, and this one is high on the list! The views of the ocean are breath taking at Bedruthan Steps, especially when you get an epic sunset. The cliff steps down to the beach are unfortunately closed now, but the camp spot is open and well worth a visit. This is a 5 minute drive from Watergate Bay, so this is the perfect spot to stay after a day surfing.

Do a Coastal Walk and spot the seals

There are many walks to do in this part of Cornwall, especially along the coast. When you get a sunny day, there is nothing better than walking on the footpaths around the meandering cliffs as the sun lights up the turquoise waters below. Just stunning! From Robbie Loves Campsite you can walk to Pentire Point in an hour. If you are lucky, you might spot the seals that chill on the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs.

The weather in Cornwall can be hit or miss, and this may affect your itinerary but the above should keep you busy for a 5-day trip. And when the sun shines, you could be mistaken for being in the Caribbean!

SURF AT FISTRAL

New Quay has a bit of a rep for being a hen and stag do location, but parts of it are awesome, and the people are chilled and lovely! I spent a few days parked up at Fistral beach, taking in the beach views and surfing. If you are looking for somewhere with good wifi, check out the bar at Fistral Beach Hotel. The road below this is where I parked.
